There is no end to the fake news that comes from Trump’s mouth or his social media. Whether he knows he’s lying or whether it his alternate reality (see my post, “XXX”) it really makes no difference.
This week, he had the audacity to say 1) the talks with the Iranians are going well, and 2) there’s already been regime change.
As as been reported, there have been no direct talks with the Iranians. In fact, when Trump made one of these statements, the Iranians shot back that they don’t know what he’s talking about.
As for regime change, while it’s certainly true that between the U.S. and Israeli actions (mostly Israeli), that most all of the former leaders of the Iranian government have been killed, it is also true that their places have been taken by people whose political position is no different, and if anything, there’s one line of thought that the war has strengthened the hand of the Revolutionary Guard ,which is an extremely conservative force in Iran. While Trump has claimed that the new people are more likely to negotiate, so far we’ve seen just the opposite.
Why does Trump make these statements? Who knows! It could be because it’s the outcome he would like, so that’s what he tells himself. It could be that he is trying to calm the markets by projecting positive news and a potential end to the war. Regardless, the facts say otherwise. And when there is no deal in several days, he will have to take the bullet and broadened the war as he has threatened to do.
It was a sad day when the American people elected him President. We will be paying for that in many ways for years to come.
