I have written many posts about how Trump talks great about how he supports workers, but that he has done nothing that really supports them. He does not walk the walk. All of his executive orders and other actions have benefited corporations. In this sense he is a traditional Republican—his allegiance is to big business and billionaires, not the average American, the American worker. Trump has deceived the American worker. He has just used them to get elected. Now comes yet more evidence of this.
The federal government has a rule that limits silica dust in coal mines because it is a carcinogen that causes black lung disease. The mining industry has sued to block enforcement of the rule, and the Trump administration, rather than enforcing the rule pending the outcome of the suit, has paused enforcement while the suit plays out in court.
Labor unions, the National Black Lung Association, and an increasing number of miners are accusing Trump of ignoring miners while giving mine owners hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies to bolster the coal industry.
The Democratic Party must make sure that all workers are aware of this deceitfulness of Trump and the Republican Party. I have urged the Party in the past to have a weekly news conference where everything Trump does that harms workers and the country is made clear to the public. This is certainly one of those items.
